The poinsettia is a symbol of festivity and joy. In Japan, the red leaves are believed to bring luck and prosperity.

Every year, over 200 million poinsettias are sold worldwide. The production cost per unit for a 6.5" poinsettia is 5.52 US, the retail price 7.25 USD. This results in estimated retail sales of almost US 1.5 billion annually. Market forecasts predict further growth. It is believed that most poinsettias are discarded about eight weeks after sale.

Despite a low birth rate and shrinking population, smartphone usage in Japan is expected to rise from 58% (2019) to 79.8% (2028). Average per capita internet usage in Japan has more than doubled since 2014 - to 175 minutes per weekday.

"Sake Viva!". To increase tax revenues associated with alcohol consumption, the Japanese government recently launched a nationwide campaign to encourage young adults to consume more alcoholic beverages.
